Upgrade Fire Prevention technology in the Philippines

I’ve only been to the States a few times and always stayed at hotels. My friend has a bungalow in Glendale California and I have seen a device installed in his place. A device that alerts police if there would be intruders setting off the alarm.

I also know that their fire alarms are connected to the fire department. Why can’t we also have those? It could be a pre-requisite for insurance companies who’s going to insure clients.

Just this year, the Light Rail Transit operations here in the Philippines had been suspended four or five times already resulting in Billions of revenues lost. Revenues lost does not incude those inventory losts by merchandisers, building damage by land lords, people who lost their jobs and houses and traffic caused in the area which will also result to millions of pesos lost.

If you apply a technology like that, fire volunteers would be alerted more quickly, thus, reducing damages and revenues lost.

Mr. Ube started TXT FIRE and I had been a member ever since it started. It sends an SMS message alert to everyone subscribed to it on where a current fire is happening.

I wish Mr. Ube can talk with the government on how to improve the fire prevention technology here in the Philippines.

*Mr. Ube - If you remember me, I talked to you once in an establishment in Monumento Caloocan. I was there with my dad and you bought a Pepsi, sat and chatted with us. :)

New Innovation: Smart LED for cars

The image “http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/03/smartbrakeli.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

“The problem is that brake lights are yes and no – on and off,” according to John Hennage of Montross, Va., a Ph.D. mechanical engineering student in Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering. “The driver behind does not know the speed at which the car in front is slowing or stopping. The only other signal would be the smoke off the tires.”

The solution is an intelligent brake light system that communicates slowing and urgent stopping – rather than simply that the brake pedal is being touched. “A driver could be tapping his foot in time to music and the brake lights would blink. Or, a driver can rest her foot on the pedal and the lights would glow. It’s not enough information for the following driver,” said Hennage.

High-Tech push carts on the way!

High Tech!

http://www.shopperculture.com/shopper_culture/images/2007/09/24/insecurities_laid_bare.jpg

can’t find what you want? Worry no more!

Can’t find those noodles in the supermarket? High-tech shopping carts to be launched in Singapore might show you the way.

Dubbed “MediaCarts”, the carts will be deployed in a pilot project for the first time in Asia at a new branch of Singapore’s Cold Storage supermarket chain to open later this year, a statement said Wednesday.

The carts can sense their location in the store and trigger advertisements for nearby products. Promotional messages are displayed on an LCD screen as the cart is pushed around the store, said a press release from Cold Storage and Media Cart Asia, which is providing the system.

How long does service providers keep text messaging logs?

http://www.piercemattie.com/blogs/text_messaging_lifestlyle.jpg

Millions of fingers scurrying over mobile electronic devices probably paused this week as news emerged of a trove of text messages containing flirty and sexually explicit chat between Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and a top aide. Even those engaging in more wholesome dialogue would be wise to wonder: Do text messages disappear — like oral conversations — or are they permanently logged somewhere for potential retrieval — like e-mail usually is?

“I think people can feel comfortable we’re not storing information that can later be used against them,” Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Erica Sevilla said. “Unless you have something stored on your phone or on a recipients’ phone, it does not stay on our network for a long period.”

AT&T Inc. keeps text messages for up to 72 hours until delivery is successful, spokesman Howard Riefs said. If a message can’t be delivered, it is removed from the system and can’t be retrieved.

New Samsung Slim Fit Computer Monitor

The Samsung CT-21Z58MQ

What is it: The old-reliable CRT television with Samsung’s unique slim-fit aesthetics.

Who’s it for: People looking for a CRT television but conscious about space.

Wallet magnet: 30 percent thinner than the regular 22” CRT television; superior Samsung TV technologies (DNIeJr., signal and color optimizer, detail and contrast enhancers); direct DVD input; turbo sound effect; plug and play.

On second thought: Can they still make it any thinner?

What’s in the box: Samsung CT-21Z58MQ Slim-fit TV; external antenna; antenna adapter; wireless remote; manual and warranty.

Tech Times’ verdict: While LCD expands it market share, Samsung extends the life of the cathode ray tube in an affordable and slim television set that would perfectly fit the interiors of the space-concious.

be like the Terminator.

Contact Lens Computer - Newest technology

Researchers at the University of Washington managed to embed an electronic circuit and LEDs directly into contact lenses, which seemed to look good on rabbit eyes. Though the circuit is not functional and the lights don’t light up, the development shows that future applications like direct video to the eye may indeed be possible.

Building the lenses was a challenge because materials that are safe for use in the body, such as the flexible organic materials used in contact lenses, are delicate. Manufacturing electrical circuits, however, involves inorganic materials, scorching temperatures and toxic chemicals. Researchers built the circuits from layers of metal only a few nanometers thick, about one thousandth the width of a human hair, and constructed light-emitting diodes one third of a millimeter across. They then sprinkled the grayish powder of electrical components onto a sheet of flexible plastic. The shape of each tiny component dictates which piece it can attach to, a microfabrication technique known as self-assembly. Capillary forces — the same type of forces that make water move up a plant’s roots, and that cause the edge of a glass of water to curve upward — pull the pieces into position.

The prototype contact lens does not correct the wearer’s vision, but the technique could be used on a corrective lens, Parviz said. And all the gadgetry won’t obstruct a person’s view.

First Newspaper phone released!

http://www.centrecountyrecycles.com/Recycle/CommercialRecycling/images/Paper00.gif

Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter said Wednesday it had launched the world’s first “newspaper” telephone: a mobile phone offering the daily’s subscribers direct and free access to its website.

“We want our readers to be able to follow the news even when they’re in places where they cannot lay their hands on a paper or (access the Internet on) a computer,” Thorbjoern Larsson, Dagens Nyheter (DN) editor-in-chief and publisher, told AFP.

“This is yet another way of distributing the news,” he added.

The clap TV by JVC

The screen display when an icon is chosen. The 3D image displayed other icons as paper pages that can be flipped.
The Clap TV by JVC

Victor Company of Japan Ltd. (JVC) - JVC demonstrated a “handclap & gesture recognition TV” at CEATEC Japan 2007, which opened Oct. 2, 2007.

Users operate it using handclaps and hand gestures. JVC has conducted a research and development of the TV operation using handclaps and gestures since about two years ago, the company said.

In the demonstration, the company operated the TV using its capability to sense the sound of handclaps and the gesture of a hand and fingers. The TV collects the sound of handclaps using the microphone on its top and distinguishes commands based on the timing and number of handclaps.

If you clap hands twice when you are watching TV as normal, for example, volume control and channel icons will be displayed in the center of the screen. As the two icons turn red, you can choose and determine the icon by clapping your hands once while the desired icon is lit. The company devised the sound filter in an effort to prevent the TV from making error operations due to the sound from the TV itself and the surroundings, according to JVC.

The TV detects hand gestures in the video being monitored with its camera and lets the user specify an icon by locating the hand on it and click an icon by bending and extending a finger.
