This is what you call a portable laptop

Imagine, laptops mostly 14″ weighs around 4kg and has a bag as big as a small suitcase. Thats a thing of the past.
Introducing, The new Asus Eee 701.
ASUS EEE 701
Small form, adept features

The overall dimension is small with only 22.5 x 16.5 x 2.13.5cm and very lightweight at only 0.89kg. Why so light? According to ASUS, the special solid-state disc design based on built-in flash-memory gives the EEE PC a great shock-proof advantage over traditional notebook PCs allowing extra flexibility and a worry free mobile computing experience.

The flash memory present in this laptop accounts for its very light weight. You might find it hard to settle with the 4GB version of this laptop if you’re so comfortable in having 200GB to 750GB worth of storage in your notebook or desktop PC. But the low flash drive memory assured ASUS the capacity of delivering a low cost laptop. Don’t fret; you can always add an external storage drive to the laptop.

The display is only 7 inches, decent enough if you’re only viewing web pages. The processor is provided by Intel mobile CPU and chipset. Users can choose from two operating systems - Linux and Microsoft Windows XP. But Linux is ASUS’ choice OS.

Connectivity features are impressive, with 10/100 Mbps Ethernet; 56K modem and WiFi 802.11b/g. Memory is 512MB, DDR2-400 and storage capacity ranges from 4, 8 and 16GB flash memory which accounts for the laptop’s very lightweight character at only 89 grams.

Word for the day: Net Cafe Refugees

Net Cafe Refuges refer to those new class of working poor who live in all-night lounges and are seen as a sign of a growing rich-poor gap.
The average salary of the “refugees” was 113,000 yen (983 dollars) per month — about equivalent to what a minimum-wage employee would earn in Tokyo if working 40 hours a week.
A five-hour stay at an Internet cafe in Tokyo costs about 3,000 yen with a meal served. Showers are available at 200 yen for 30 minutes and clean underwear is on sale.
It said some 80 percent of Japan’s “net cafe refugees” are men and that 52.7 percent said they decided to live in the lounges because they lost their jobs.
Another 13.8 percent said they moved into the net cafes because of deteriorating relationships with their families, according to the survey by the health and welfare ministry.

High def equipments make surgery a horror!

High-definition capture and monitoring equipment has long been available for medical uses, but for whatever reason, widespread use has yet to catch on. Now, however, you people will be able to um, partake, in viewing the “first HDTV surgery ever broadcast” as National Geographic HD airs a special presentation of the 1080p system in action. According to a doctor that actually got to experience the technology first-hand, the KSEA HDTV Surgical System provides a widescreen, Full HD look at what’s going on within, employs a 3CCD camera with an acquisition resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, and outputs an image that is progressively scanned and displayed at 60 full frames-per-second. We’d recommend you tune in to the aforementioned show on September 16th if the channel is available in your neck of the woods, but you may want to click on and see a few stills of the KSEA in action before subjecting yourself (read: your weak stomach) to the real deal.

Advantages of The System:

  1. highest resolution ever for a medical endoscopic camera.  Allows the surgeon to see finer detail and clearer images.  It remains to be seen if this will allow the visualization of smaller disease implants but it seems likely.
  2. This high resolution is native from the chip not interpolated by the camera system or faked with post chip processing (much more on this in the follow up posts on will the true HD please stand up)
  3. Progressive scanned image smooths the motion seen and reduces motion artifacts.
  4. First ever wide 16:9 aspect ratio.  Gives more lateral detail and information during surgery.  Just like the differences you see in wide aspect ratio TV’s vs standard.
  5. First ever ability to record images at full 1080 HD resolution for teaching and archiving.  More about this later but this is what we used for National Geographic.

Bluu-ray revealed!

Here’s the answer to all your audio-visual cravings - the Blu-ray Disc Player. First there was VCD and then DVD. Now, the spreading popularity of Blu-ray technology signals a new leap in visual technology.

A new format that will soon become the platform of video standards, Blu-ray is more precise than the common DVD format that we enjoy now. Blu-ray was obviously named after the blue-violet lasers used to focus laser spot. It has a shorter wavelength than DVD and can store up to 25 gigabytes of data on a single-layer disc and 50GB on dual-layer, compared to 4.7GB and 8.5GB for DVD. No wonder it can store movie content in full HD.

Sony, a leading consumer electronics company recently released its Blu-ray Disc Player in the country. Early this month, Sony Philippines vice president for Marketing Division Takeshi Kozu, proudly led the launching of the Blu-ray Disc Player with promises of ultimate High Definition (HD) viewing experience. According to Sony, their Blu-Ray Disc Player is for ardent lovers of home entertainment.

Its storage capacity alone surpasses that of the current formats available and actuall delivers five times than the capacity of DVDs today. “With the player, you can experience the full capability of High Definition. The player’s “Cinema Tuned” Digital Processing is able to produce stunning visuals and cinema-like surround sound. The player is also backwards compatible with your current DVDs, but plays them with better images than a DVD player.”

This year, Sony focuses on full blast promotion of its wide range of HD products - including TVs, handycam, photo printers, digital cameras, hard disk photo storage and many others. Kozu further said that Blu-ray technology is another exciting addition to Sony’s other HD products.

Everything has an immitation…even cars…!? smart car!

Yeah, cellphones, media players and logo’d clothing items are all well and good, but if you really want to stand out in China’s competitive market of highly commercial disregard for intellectual property, you’ve gotta think big. That’s why we’re so impressed by CMEC, who not only managed to rip off an entire car, but are also sneaking their electric version of the Smart Car into one of Smart’s own favored markets — Great Britain. While externally the “City Smart” from CMEC is virtually identical to the Fortwo model that inspired it, CMEC modded up the interior a bit to avoid legal woes: “When we designed the car we were aware that we might be opening ourselves up to legal action,” sez Jerry Chen, sales manager for CMEC. “That’s why we’ve imitated the outside but concentrated on making the interior look different.” Um, right. Their electric motor is also quite a departure from the real Smart cars, and while its 34MPH top-speed won’t have it venturing far from congested city streets, it’s hard to complain about the 4,200 euro ($5,270 US) pricetag. Well, other than the incredibly shady legality of the whole affair. DaimlerChrysler, parent company of Smart, is currently doing its darnedest to keep the City Smart out of the rest of Europe, while they prep their own Fortwo successor that most certainly will cost more than $5k, but is also more likely to involve certain niceties like original design and at least a teensy bit of pep.
=============================
Thats how good their technology is. so high tech that they can immitate anything they want. it might not have the same quality but, they have their own way of testing quality. up to their standards maybe. I went to China personally a few years back and saw a lot of immitation stuffs. cars, i will mention in particular because this articles is about a cloned smart car.
I saw, a rav4 cloned, another, the front is a BMW x5, but the back part looks exactly like the 2002 honda crv. what a fusion! I will try to search for my photos of those cars.
