Worst Malwares in 2008 Came From the Internet

Trend Micro cited in its latest report that more than 50 percent of the top 100 malware of 2008 came from the Internet. The malwares were accidentally downloaded by users surfing unknown or malicious websites.

Malware from by removable drives such as portable and external hard drives, thumb drives, flash disks, and memory cards registered at 29.31 percent in Asia and Australia. Most Asian countries including the Philippines have auto-run malware or malware that spread through removable devices as their top infectors,
the highest concentration compared to other regions.

System malwares account 43 percent of the infections. “Today’s multi-component threats typically download one or more pieces of malware whose sole purpose is to hide in a specific file, then contact a remote location to retrieve the real payload such as data stealing malware.”

Email attachments from unknown or malicious sources are the third highest source of infection.

What gadgets does a tycoon use? (Part 12 of 15)

This is part 12 of the 15 people from the Wilson Lee Flores article in Philippine Star.

Helen Yuchengco Dee

CEO Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and Malayan Insurance Group

This is also a good read about the Yuchengco family.

GADGETS

She does not want to lug around too many gadgets. She is using a Nokia e90 because she finds the keyboard useful. Besides, e90 would be good for surfing the net and checking mails as well as making calls and taking photos. What more can you ask for in such a small device?

Sun Cellular now offering mobile broadband internet!

http://www.txtfire.net/Sun_Logo%5B1%5D.JPG
Sun Broadband internet

According to the flyer I received, this broadband can reach GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA speeds within METRO MANILA only as of now. Like other telcos offering broadband, there is no need for phone lines and this plan already comes with a USB modem (plug and play)

Minimum Requirements are:
- Pentium 4, 1Ghz or higher
- USB 2.0 full speed
- Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Mac OS
- 50MB free hard disk space
- 128MB RAM or higher

Application Requirements are:
- Application form
- One Valid ID
- Competitor proof of billing/ Proof of income

Now, here are their rates:

Sun Broadband plan 500

- Monthly service fee Php500.00
- One time charge of Php2,000.00
- MAX speed: 280 Kbps
- Free monthly usage: 35 hours
- Rate in excess of free monthly usage - Php 0.30 cents per minute

Sun Broadband plan 1000

- Monthly service fee Php1,000.00
- One time charge of Php2.000.00
- MAX speed: 560 Kbps
- Free monthly usage: 75 hours
- Rate in excess of free monthly usage - Php 0.30 cents per minute

I wonder if this is a good alternative for Globe Visibility users or We Roam users signal wise around Metro Manila? I repeat that this service is ONLY INITIALLY GOOD AROUND METRO MANILA. So those who often go to other regions, this might be rather useless for you and your laptops.

Companies utilizing technology: TV ads to internet ads

No, I do not mean them buying upgrades to computerized their system. Dead are the days that only newspapers and tv ads reign. I made a blog post about this a couple of months ago and this is the part two of it.

It is so evident that companies are now not speding all their money in one major basket and that is the TV. TV ads account for more than 50% of the advertising funds spent by most companies since we all know that having just one TV ad will cost you millions.

Breaking it down, doing tv ads, you will need a production team, editing team, celebrities, tons of money and the right TV station and program.

If you think of it, this is not a one-month job.

When you analyze what the internet to do for your company, you would see that, you can reach another market not the same as TV ads does but, it is a wider market than that.

Your possible market here would be world-wide and unlike TV, which would only be locally.

You would also have less production time since some companies offer an all-on-one solution like Yehey.com

Another reason is, it would cost you less as sometimes, ex-deals are also accepted and you won’t be needing celebrities because creative flash banner ads and other creative paraphernalias would be provided to you. You just need to state what you need.

Another sample is submission contest like Mentos.

http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles/57275/projects/82188/0572751206674105.jpg

They have an ongoing “Spoof the Mentos Commercial Contest” and that is another way of advertising your brand.

Try going to that to see how effective your brand recall would be. Just having a place and a contest like that is already half of the deal you would be needing for brand recall.

Internet for politics in May 2010 Philippine elections

In the near May 2010 Philippine Elections, the internet, is now one of the sources of votes according to an article.

I also believe in that. Personally, the internet industry is on the way up. Since this is the easiest way to reach people around the world compared to TV ads, newspapers ads and magazine ads, more politiians are opting to put a more money than we expected in online advertisements.

For me, you don’t have to go through all these expensive media agencies. I suggest that politicians who would want to corner the internet niche market, should go to an all-in-one ad media agency. yehey.com, for example is an all-in-one media agency because firstly, it is a search engine turned marketing giant in the Philippines. They will do everything for you and with their experience as being the number one Filipino search engine in the country for decades, they surely know what they do.

In other mediums, we are pretty sure that ABS-CBN and GMA will bag the most advertisers as they are the gurus in their line of industry.

Just one note to all politicians. Use your funds well and make sure that your funds ain’t coming from unwanted illegal sources.

Suicide tips off the web

http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11148555/Dvs_6000_Hydrogen_Sulphide_Scavenger.jpgThe Japanese police moved Wednesday to stop a string of suicides using detergent, asking Internet providers to remove information on how to generate the deadly gas.

In the first action by police following dozens of suicides using hydrogen sulphide, the National Police Agency filed an official request with the Internet industry, telecommunications companies and cable broadcasters.

“Generating hydrogen sulphide is not illegal under current laws, but the risk is high for third parties to inhale the gas and, in worst case scenarios, die,” a police statement said.

However, Internal Affairs Minister Hiroya Masuda, who oversees communication, told reporters that the government would not intervene against the websites, saying such intervention would constitute “excessive restrictions on freedom of expression.”

From: http://www.yehey.com/gadgets/articles.aspx?id=212403

Hydrogen sulfide (or hydrogen sulphide) is the chemical compound with the formula H2S. This colorless, toxic and flammable gas is responsible for the foul odour of rotten eggs and flatulence.

It often results from the bacterial break down of organic matter in the absence of oxygen, such as in swamps and sewers (anaerobic digestion). It also occurs in volcanic gases, natural gas and some well waters. The odor of H2S is commonly misattributed to elemental sulfur, which is in fact odorless. Hydrogen sulfide has numerous names, some of which are archaic

New Use of People Technology

The Internet. Most of us use this technology as a medium to do almost anything - buy, sell gather info, entertain ouselves, name it! It is very powerful that even big companies are compelled to act double time on complaints compared to written complaints.

I have here a clear cut example. A blog made by a particular user in multply, elaine10.multiply.com.

She complained about a particular fitness first trainer named Sam Santos of sexual harrasment, not in black and white (paper) but, using the power of the internet. To know the details about that complaint, just read elaine10’s blog. She posted that particular complaint in her blog April 6 and she got a response from Fitness First Eastwood in just one week without directly complaining there.

One week. Imagine, it is in the entire world wide web already that can be accessed throughout the globe using any device that has access to internet. Mobile phones, laptops, desktops, pda’s etc..! Yes. This is the new age. No wonder Yehey.com is doing so well right now.

They started small but now, they are an all-in-one multimedia-advertising-internet guru company which started from the Philippines. From placing internet ads in Yahoo, Google or wherever you like it. From website hosting, website design, flash banner ads creation. Whatever it is, as long as it is in the net, they have it! The world can see their distinct work. I was really amazed by some of their projects like the Chowking website, Experience Philippines website, Pantene / Olay / Nescafe SoundSkool and their two recent big time projects, the Trinoma Food Tour wherein they got bloggers to eat for free in partnership with Trinoma and the HappySlip Meet and Greet tour.

You know why the trinoma food tour was a big hit? Here are some C.S. reasons:

  • Bloggers/ Internet users get to eat for free - Who wouldn’t want to taste almost ALL the restaurants in Trinoma?
  • They even gave takehome goody bag - Trinoma Cinema Passes, Yehey 2008 Planner, Ayala Planner etc…
  • They get to expand their network - Bloggers/Media/HUMAN in particular like to interact with other humans.
  • Yes, aside from the 30-40 restaurants that you can taste for FREE, they even raffled of GC’s from restaurants and Yehey Bretas GC at the end of the day to those who joined. Talk about freebies galore! There is still such a thing as free in the world, you know.
  • Here is the part that companies would like to hear. Anything you write on the internet, good or bad, would be forever on the net except, when the author deletes the blog post or when the host deletes the post.

See? Do you know what the time frame of forever is? Can you imagine big companies spending millions on TV ads compared to giving a free meal for one day - in exchange for these ads?

Big companies, need to realize that TV ads, Newspaper ads, billboards or corporate websites alone are not sufficient to embrace this propelling and accelerating technology. They need to embrace it. Smell and Taste it… and swallow.

Some tips on how to embrace this booming medium almost everyone has access to.

1. Place ads in Yahoo, Google or wherever websites you want (Including Yehey, if you want.) If you are in the Philippines, call (02) 9106411 to inquire on these.
2. Make your websites attractive yet, professional.
3. If you cannot affod the most expensive ones (ad placements), go to google and search for “number one philippines serch engine” if your target is the Philippines. The top search engine listed there is usually the best place to put your bets into that it will click.
4. Who wants old promotions!? Try new ones!
Sample:

  • Online Press Conference
  • Chat Events
  • Meet and Greet Events
  • Food Tours
  • Product testing events

Basically, those are human interaction events wherein, the company will connect you with the right bloggers to “Blog” about your product. Be warned that, even though you are offering free food, giving away freebies etc… you will also get the chance to have a negative feedback because you can’t really “buy” bloggers to write ads for you. They write from their experiences.

For these kind of events, just call (02) 9106418 - Philippines.

What are “Bretas”?

I guess you know something about “Breta” (Singular) or “Bretas” Because you are currently here in my Blog page that is titled, “What are Bretas?”

You can check out the Breta FAQ page or continue reading here.

Breta explained in layman’s term.
The image “http://www.yehey.com/breta/images/Heading.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Breta(s) = Online Currency of www.Yehey.com

Neopoints = Currency of www.Neopets.com

Zeny = Online Currency of Ragnarok

Conclusion:
It is like Pesos in the Philippines, Malaysian Ringgit in Malaysia, Baht in Thailand, US Dollars in United States, Yen in Japan, Zeny in Ragnarok, Neopoints in www.Neopets.com and Breta in www.yehey.com

How to EARN BRETAS:

In Neopets, you play their online games, barter, sell virtual Neopets items, play their virtual stock market, etc. in order to earn Neopoints.

In Ragnarok, you do almost the same. Sell rare items you found etc. to earn Zeny.

In Yehey, you don’t need to play games. These are some of the activities you can do to earn “Breta(s)”:

1. Browsing www.Yehey.com
2. Searching using the Yehey Search
3. Voting in polls and in-house surveys.
4. Rating Movies, Items, Jokes etc.
5. Posting in the Yehey message boards.

If I earn BRETAS, what do I get in return?

In Ragnarok, when you earn Zeny, you can purchase rare items either from the virtual shops or barter Player-to-Player.

In Neopets, you can do a little lot more. You can buy virtual food, virtual furnitures for your virtual house, buy stocks in their virtual stock market, bet in their virtual Lotto and etc.

In Yehey, let me put it this way. You earn virtual money in exchange for real life items.

Not clear? Let me make sure you understand what I was saying.

First you earn Bretas.

***You can check your Breta earnings in the right most corner. (See photo below)
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb278/cheftonio1/breta_amountcorner.jpg

Then, you spend Bretas.
