Screw laser pointers — this is the real thang! Laser pointer that melts objects!

Remember the era when laser pointers was a fad — a must have cool thing? Well, now, owning one wouldn’t make you any cooler than owning a tamagotchi pet. Here is the ultimate latest must have high-tech gadget this Christmas!

It’s called the “Wicked Lasers Elite Series”

At one look, you will just think of it as a conventional laser pointer being used during office meetings and the usual laser you see most people are playing with. But once you get hold of Wicked Laser, you’ll immediately sense that it has something in it that’s worth the penny you will shed.

The Wicked Lasers Elite Series is a chrome-finished-brass-pen-size laser pointer which only uses two AAA batteries. It is no exaggeration to say that I myself was amazed on how this small gizmo can do so many things compared to other laser pointer brands in the market.

Warnng: Do not be fooled in Hong Kong (Gadget Shopping)

In connection with my blog yesterday about gadget shopping in China, today, while I was browsing two of my favorite tech news blogs, I saw one topic that is a bit related to what I wrote yesterday.

How to buy gadgets in China and not get screwed.

http://k53.pbase.com/g3/25/630725/2/58887404.HK_DSC00327.jpg

Well, honestly, in Hong Kong, you can also find malls and shops in the street that sells tons of gadgets similar to that article. I’ve also tried buying gadgets in Hong Kong and got screwed bigtime. I will narrate my experience here so readers would be well aware of their modus operandi because after telling my friends about my experience, they knew the modus operandis of the shop owners in Hong Kong.

The Search

Of course, this is what we all do. Search and haggle for the lowest prices we can get before actually purchasing the item we want. We did that for 3 days. I was eyeing this particular SLR lens from Canon and it ranged from 1,200 to 1,500.

The Decision

Another of course. Of course, you would naturally buy the cheapest store who sells the item you are looking for. We ended up going in the store which offered us the lens for $900 hkd. Cheaper by 300-600 hkd compared to other stores.

Then, the modus starts. He then bad mouths the lens you bought and show you something better. In reality, it is really better! He offered it to us for 4,000 until we haggled it down to 3,500. take note, we do not know the price outside but we just trusted his word that it is really cheaper there at his store because he told us that he offers the lowest prices around. (Taking the $900 hkd lens into picture)

The stupid part was, us believing him. After awhile, we haggled more and agreed at $3,300.00hkd.

He then swiped the card and *accidentaly* swiped it at $3,500! I know they did that on purpose. we just asked for a few lens protectors for free and gave us one but, it won’t cost $200 dollars for that one protector.

Actual Price

I asked my friends immediately in my home country how much the value of that lens is. They all didn’t know thats why I bought it. I went back to the Philippines, went to the shop where I bought my camera and asked for the price of that particular lens. It sells for $1,600 hkd!!! We paid more than double! crap that!

So, that was my Hong Kong crappy adventure wherein I was doped double the price.

*another modus according to my friend is, they will tell you the stock isn’t available and knowing most tourists are in a hurry, you will opt for another unit of camera or lens because they already swiped your card and, ending up being doped. Just cancel the transaction next time or make sure that unit is within your sight first before letting them swipe your credit card.

Spammers face a stiff penalty - US judge

A US judge has ordered a pair of accused spammers to pay MySpace about $230 million in what was being billed Wednesday as a record-setting punishment for such Internet abuses.

So guys, beware of spamming. They are now studying stiffer penalties for spammers.

Anyway, not connected to that, if you love and know how to do digital art, go to Toyota’s website and join their Digital art contest. read the mechanics at their site at http://www.toyota.com.ph/news_and_events/artedge.asp?

be like the Terminator.

Contact Lens Computer - Newest technology

Researchers at the University of Washington managed to embed an electronic circuit and LEDs directly into contact lenses, which seemed to look good on rabbit eyes. Though the circuit is not functional and the lights don’t light up, the development shows that future applications like direct video to the eye may indeed be possible.

Building the lenses was a challenge because materials that are safe for use in the body, such as the flexible organic materials used in contact lenses, are delicate. Manufacturing electrical circuits, however, involves inorganic materials, scorching temperatures and toxic chemicals. Researchers built the circuits from layers of metal only a few nanometers thick, about one thousandth the width of a human hair, and constructed light-emitting diodes one third of a millimeter across. They then sprinkled the grayish powder of electrical components onto a sheet of flexible plastic. The shape of each tiny component dictates which piece it can attach to, a microfabrication technique known as self-assembly. Capillary forces — the same type of forces that make water move up a plant’s roots, and that cause the edge of a glass of water to curve upward — pull the pieces into position.

The prototype contact lens does not correct the wearer’s vision, but the technique could be used on a corrective lens, Parviz said. And all the gadgetry won’t obstruct a person’s view.

I bought a fish in Malaysia and hand carried it to the Philippines.

How did I end up buying a fish in Malaysia?

After 5 days of being a tourist and roaming around Malaysia, I ended up having left over RM (Malaysian Currency, Ringgit) worth around $100usd. I shopped the night before and as always, I cant buy anything because I cant find amusing stuffs to give my friends. Everything I saw there was available in Chinatown here in the Philippines (Divisoria Mall, 168 mall, tutuban) and of course, everything was cheaper here.

Having $100usd left, I was told to finish of my RM before leaving Malaysia. Our flight was 10am. I was roaming around searching for stuffs to buy but, I cant find anything. The souvenirs I saw worth 10 RM outside was 50 RM in the airport “Duty Free” shops.

I ended up entering a toy store 10 miutes before our departure time, finding whatever stuffs to buy already. t

That is the story why I bought a fish. (continue reading below…)

I-Fish White

MY i-Fish

Its not like I haven’t seen this gadget in the Philippines. I saw this a couple of times at Toy Kingdom and I dont know the price so I really dont know if I overpaid for this contraption. Its just that, I dont care about that fish much. I just thought it was a toy. At first, when I was looking at the box, I thought it was just a “Speaker fish”. I was like, “Oh! what the heck, I did want a portable speaker, il just purchase this one since it has an “Apple Mac” finish on it.”

After paying for it, I literally ran to gate C-1 and everyone was already in the plane. At least I made it “in” before they announced the last call. (Maybe some other passengers had a hard time buying stuffs too…)

I didn’t even have the time to test it there. I opened it up in the plane, looked at it and kept it again.

When I got home, I tried  it with my iPod because I know it was an external “dancing fish” speaker. I played music and left it there.

That night, I looked at it and noticed that the “i-Fish” has wheels on its fins. As always I dont read the manual but then, I checked the manual because I wondered what those wheels are for. to my surprise, it has tons of other features! whatta fish!

Some of the features:

- External portable speaker (Already known)
- Wiggles and lights up in different colors with the music (Also known)
- The i-Fish has moods (bad mood, good mood, sad, happy etc…)
- When not connected with the regular 3.5mm jack, it reacts to external and surrounding sounds (via its hidden mic).
- You need to feed the i-Fish!!! with sound…

and another reminder written everywhere (in the box, stickers and manual.)

THIS FISH CANT SWIM. DONT PUT IT IN WATER.

Well, for the sound quality, its good enough for me. You cant expect a 5.0 dolby surround from a dancing fish.

In case you want to buy an i-Fish (Im not selling them!), you can ask questions about the fish first, just leave a comment and I will reply to it.

German cars are known for strength, speed and high fuel consumption, but a firm in eastern Saxony has designed a lithium-ion battery membrane that could finally make electric cars common.

German cars are known for strength, speed and high fuel consumption, but a firm in eastern Saxony has designed a lithium-ion battery membrane that could finally make electric cars common.

For years, battery-powered cars have been hampered by technological hurdles, with researchers seeking to resolve problems of weight, autonomy and ways of recharging vehicles quickly and easily.

Recent progress towards lighter and more powerful batteries has been made however, in particular by groups like the Japanese car maker Toyota with its hybrid vehicles, and high-tech firms in France.

Germans were said to be plodding along behind, but batteries made by the a firm called Li-Tec “take up 30 percent less volume than those from Toyota” and “allow you to go three times further for the same weight than French models,” said Tim Schaefer, a director of the company in eastern Kamenz.
