Sony Ericsson w760i semi-review

My first impression.
This is not a phone that I would even consider buying. The motion sensor gaming isn’t a selling point for me. If I want a motion sensing game machine, I would rather go for the iPhone.

First few minutes
After switching it on for a few minutes, I, as usual wasn’t impressed. I was like, “Ok, just another slide-up phone. What’s the big deal?”

The looks
I took the phone, looked at it closely, feeling the metalic-like casing material and immediately thought that this phone is going to be very interesting!

Highlights:
1. GPS (you can actually check out your current location!!!) Very cool!
2. HSDPA internet connection
3. Beautiful elegant design
4. Easier mobile blogging experience
5. 2gb m2 memory card included!
6. Auto-rotating screen (like iPhone! in selected programs)
7. Affordable at only around 12,500 pesos!

Downside:

1. Battery life not so good for wholeday internet HSDPA browsing
2. Not touch screen (this would be almost perfect with a touch screen feature!)

From 300,000 to 500,000 in Just One Day!

Just yesterday, I made a post about 300,000 forecasted to be jobless. This morning, the forecast is at 500,000 already!!! (Read more: 500,000 Pinoys to lose jobs )

Wow! That is a lot. half a million people going jobless can’t be right. Again, this will cause a domino effect. -They don’t have money to buy thnings-Producers and retailers won’t earn therefore, they won’t have the purchasing power-factories will cut more costs and downsize-and the cycle goes on!

Amidst the economic crisis, one would think if business owners are really facing financial difficulties or are they just making this as an excuse. As a business owner, I personally can’t do such. It is against my conscience and principles but seeing a lot of brand new expensive luxury cars around the metro makes you think twice. Is is really happening?

Mobile phone sales are down to it’s lowest according to a store I interviewed in Greenhills. They had zero sales for the last 2 days — not even a Globe 300 call card load or a 15 peso Smart Buddy load was bought from them.

But again, it maybe just a trend because now, people prefer to invest in netbooks and laptops and use ordinary phones because it is more “economical”. You can earn more using a laptop rather than a mobile phone, don’t you think? You can be a load retailer when you have a phone but, you can do and earn more using a laptop. (like typing jobs, graphic design, web design and more!)

Just the other day, Sony Vaio P was launched here in the Philippines and according to them, it has a limited stock now because of the demand for it. So, are you sure there is a crisis or is this just an excuse?

After the Christmas Vacation… I became an addict.

…let me clear myself first. I became a Wii addict!!!
http://image1.play-asia.com/170/69/pa.112854.1.jpg
I had no idea it was that addictive. When it was first released, I was like “oh, another game console. pfffftt. Big deal!” I never had a playstation 2 nor 3. We only have Playstation 1, a couple of gameboys and a PSP.

When I tried the Nintendo Wii, I first played the Wii Olympics. The first sport I tried was the “shooting” game, which I never played again after the first try. I liked the table tennis though.

What got me hooked was the Mario Kart. I’ve played that game on my laptop before using a Nintendo emulator but this one was really cool! Wii does really bring gaming up a few notches!

New mini-contender notebook: Packard Bell Dot

Packard Bell Dot
Packard Bell Dot

Entire Article from: http://www.pclaunches.com/notebooks/packard_bell_dot_netbook.php

The latest entrant in the netbook segment is none other than Acer’s Packard Bell. The 8.9-inch dot is designed for computer geeks who loves internet surfing on the go. The reason why Packard Bell jumped into netbook segment is that “there remain circumstances where a full-size notebook is too cumbersome or too visible to be practical, and a smart phone is too small.” “We’ve been watching netbooks ever since they first appeared. But we’ve always considered them too austere and too business oriented for consumers,” says Emmanuel Fromont, Sales & Marketing Vice President, Packard Bell. “So we told our designers and engineers to rethink the netbook, to look at it through the eyes of a family, not a company. The result is the dot.”

The dot has a slim case that fits neatly into a shoulder bag with an 8.9-inch 1024×600-resolution display. The mini laptop is based on Intel Atom processor, and offers 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, 3x usb 2.0 ports, an extra 6-cell battery for heavy-duty use, 5-in-1 card reader, 802.11b/g wireless, optional 3G, and integrated webcam.

The Windows XP based dot will be available in the European market by November for approx $586.

Gadget window shopping - Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA8

The image “http://www.slashgear.com/gallery/data_files/2/7/8/DMX_CA8_1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Even before Olympus released their shockproof/waterproof digital camera, I’ve been wanting one eons ago. Buying a waterproof hard plastic case for your digital camera is very expensive and some costs more than your unit itself.

Then, there is this summer where waterproof bags sprouted like mushrooms. Those gadget bags costs from 400 pesos to 2,000 pesos, depending on the brand and your power to haggle (in some stores).

This is my current target. The Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA8. I just saw it in an international magazine and it costs around 21,000 pesos. Not bad, eh?

Mobile Phone with 8.1 Megapixel camera

Sony Ericsson is the first one to break through the 5 mp camera phone barrier.

Click the image to know more about the Sony Ericsson C905

Some of the features found in most high-end Cybershot digital cameras were embedded in the C905. It has Xenon flash, face detection, auto-focus, smart contrast, red eye reduction and image stabilizer. It has digital zoom up to 16 times, better than the current up to 12 time digital zoom available in regular 8.1 megapixel cameras.

It has 2.4 inch display made from scratch resistant mineral glass, also the same size as the screen of most digital cameras. With the WiFi connectivity, it’s easier to upload photos to blogs and websites. It even supports TV output.

With the impressive camera features on board the C905, it’s easy to forget that it’s actually a phone. But the good things that we’ve all grown to love in a reliable multimedia phone are also in the C905.There’s FM radio, video recording and streaming, sound recording, video calling, web browsing and push email.

Further spicing up this phone is the HSDPA feature, GPS and geo tagging functions. This will be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

I just hope this reaches the local market in time for the Christmas season. If that happens, the C905 undoubtedly will place high in the most wanted Christmas wish list.

An Early Decision Making Mistake

Last saturday, February 23,2008.

After watching a movie at Greenhills, I have this scheduled meeting with a seller. I bought a pre-loved Sony Ericsson m600i.

Sony Ericsson M600i review - by AFP

***Why this purchase was a mistake…
Since this is a pre-loved (pre-owned, second hand) phone, You can’t expect it to be ike brand new. Yes, I anticipated slight scratches and minor phone casing defects (nicks, bumps etc) but, it was my bad I didn’t check it well. There was something wrong with the lower right touch screen sensitive part. (Which, I already had it fixed now.).

Another thing, this morning, when I was browsing Ebay, I saw a cheaper SE M600i, almost same price as mine, but, complete!!! I bought mine not including a SE m2 1gb memory stick and headset. That unit has!

Anyway, PATIENCE is a virtue.

Overall, I am still happy with the phone because I can’t do anything about it. I am an optimistic person. Also, I sold one of my Oakley Juliet’s last night.

*Happy*

Anyway, guys, for Gadget reviews, specification of mobile phones, laptops etc, just go to Yehey! Gadgets.
