Wayne Burdick just wanted to watch the Chicago Bears game. Using the Slingbox he had set up, he slid in his AT&T wireless card. Two and half hours and $28,000 later, the Bears won.
Burdick was just waiting for his cruise ship to arrive, when he decided to watch the game via his Slingbox (which streams television though an internet signal). Having an unlimited data plan, he thought everything would be peachy-keen. Unfortunately, he connected to the ship’s network and, as a result, ran up international roaming charges.
When Burdick complained about the charges despite never leaving the country, AT&T offered to initially reduce the bill down to $6,000. Eventually, through some media attention, the bill was reduced to $220 in charges. Oh yeah—the score was 27-23. [Chicago Sun-Times via The Register]

According to the GMA official website,
The sham Web site has the URL http://gmanewstv.comoj.com/karatekidaids.htm, and recently it posted a fabricated news item entitled “KARATE KID” FAST FOOD with AIDS!!!” The bogus story was about a 14-year-old boy who was diagnosed with AIDS after eating in a Makati restaurant.

The vinta ( locally known as lepa-lepa or sakayan) is a traditional boat found in the Philippine island of Mindanao. These boats are made by Bajau and Moros lining in the Sulu Archipelago. It has a sail with assorted vertical colors that represents the colorful culture and history of the Muslim community. These boats are used for inter-island transport of people and goods. Zamboanga City is known for these vessels.
My first impression.
This is not a phone that I would even consider buying. The motion sensor gaming isn’t a selling point for me. If I want a motion sensing game machine, I would rather go for the iPhone.
First few minutes
After switching it on for a few minutes, I, as usual wasn’t impressed. I was like, “Ok, just another slide-up phone. What’s the big deal?”
The looks
I took the phone, looked at it closely, feeling the metalic-like casing material and immediately thought that this phone is going to be very interesting!
Highlights:
1. GPS (you can actually check out your current location!!!) Very cool!
2. HSDPA internet connection
3. Beautiful elegant design
4. Easier mobile blogging experience
5. 2gb m2 memory card included!
6. Auto-rotating screen (like iPhone! in selected programs)
7. Affordable at only around 12,500 pesos!
Downside:
1. Battery life not so good for wholeday internet HSDPA browsing
2. Not touch screen (this would be almost perfect with a touch screen feature!)
I am currently in Tagaytay and our house here is, of course, not wifi enabled because I am no eccentric rich human being that can afford to have a broadband connection here where, I go roughly just ten times a year.
So, using my Globe Visibility mobile broadband, I combo it with my windy31 USB wireless broadband router and VOILA! Our entire house is now WiFi enabled!
Currently, this is my Globe Visibility speed (Jan 31, 2009) at Tagaytay.

3 laptops running, all browsing the net without delay and lag.
I am so happy with that device!
Wow! That is a lot. half a million people going jobless can’t be right. Again, this will cause a domino effect. -They don’t have money to buy thnings-Producers and retailers won’t earn therefore, they won’t have the purchasing power-factories will cut more costs and downsize-and the cycle goes on!
Amidst the economic crisis, one would think if business owners are really facing financial difficulties or are they just making this as an excuse. As a business owner, I personally can’t do such. It is against my conscience and principles but seeing a lot of brand new expensive luxury cars around the metro makes you think twice. Is is really happening?
Mobile phone sales are down to it’s lowest according to a store I interviewed in Greenhills. They had zero sales for the last 2 days — not even a Globe 300 call card load or a 15 peso Smart Buddy load was bought from them.
But again, it maybe just a trend because now, people prefer to invest in netbooks and laptops and use ordinary phones because it is more “economical”. You can earn more using a laptop rather than a mobile phone, don’t you think? You can be a load retailer when you have a phone but, you can do and earn more using a laptop. (like typing jobs, graphic design, web design and more!)

Just the other day, Sony Vaio P was launched here in the Philippines and according to them, it has a limited stock now because of the demand for it. So, are you sure there is a crisis or is this just an excuse?
In a forecast here in the Philippines, Labor Secretary Roque estimated that around 300,000 people might lose their jobs. That is not a small number as this would have a domino effect in the country.
Anyway, going back to my main purpose in writing this, I was again, pondering last night on why I wanted to buy an iPhone. If you’ve read my previous blog about it, you can see that my direction is towards the iPhone. Now, it’s going away from it. An iPhone costs 30,000 pesos and it is equivalent to 3 months salary (average) of the people here in the Philippines.
I wanted the iPhone because I don’t want to lug around a lot of gadgets. The problem is, I am not excited about the idea that I have to use my finger to send SMS. It’s pretty difficult. It’s not like I am a text addict but, I wanted to spend something that won’t make my life harder. I know you get what I mean.
So, what would a movie addict want to buy then? It narrows down to:
1. Apple iPod Touch

2. Apple iPod Nano

3. Apple iPod Video

4. Microsoft Zune

5. Archos

So much for narrowing it down but at least, they are all personal media players (PMP).
Here are the top things to consider when purchasing a PMP:
1. Battery Life
What would a PMP be used for if it can only play 3 hours of movie? That’s pretty useless!
2. User-friendliness
One thing I hate about iPod products is the hassle of converting videos for it to be played and the use of iTunes to add music to the library. For iPod users, try YAMWIN. It’s a program for iPod’s so you can easuly drag and drop music files to it.
3. Size
No further explanation needed. That is what the first P in PMP stands for — Portable!
Now, after buying a PMP, I need to decide which mobile phone I will buy.
***I sold ALL my old phones to help raise funds for my new gadgets. What I am using now is my trusty ol’ Sony Ericsson p910i and Nokia 6300. Both works flawlessly unlike my M600i and P990i –those 2 are crappy phones!
