Online auctions: Filling up with prized possesions

From AP

NEW YORK - The for-sale listings on the online hub Craigslist come with plaintive notices, like the one from the teenager in Georgia who said her mother lost her job and pleaded, “Please buy anything you can to help out.”

Or the seller in Milwaukee who wrote in one post of needing to pay bills — and put a diamond engagement ring up for bids to do it.

Struggling with mounting debt and rising prices, faced with the toughest economic times since the early 1990s, Americans are selling prized possessions online and at flea markets at alarming rates.

To meet higher gas, food and prescription drug bills, they are selling off grandmother’s dishes and their own belongings. Some of the household purging has been extremely painful — families forced to part with heirlooms.

Times are getting harder but we must not forget that, God is bigger than all of those problems.

Intellectual Property: World Wide Issue

Don’t celebrate just yet! Even though Philippines is not included in the list, we are still one of the top in the world in terms of the liniency with regards to piracy.

According to AFP reports, the United States on Friday named China and Russia as among the worst protectors of intellectual property rights, flooding global trade with counterfeit items such as DVDs, designer bags, medicines and software.

For those officials in the Philippines, do check out some malls in Manila and you can see pirated products. Good job for those not supporting pirated products. For those who are still, try to improve. What goes around comes around.

Rising food prices and Mobile phone usage fees

Telecoms can now expect a decrease in their earnings from the lower class people in the Philippines due to the basic commodities shortage and price increase.

They have to offer a pricing scheme or services that will target the more affluent—those belonging to A, B and upper C socio-economic brackets, as they are likely to have disposable incomes.

The report, more than a million text messages per day sent around the network was heard a few years back. I wonder how many SMS messages in the Philippines are sent now? Can we call the Philippines the “Text messaging capital” of the world?

Love in the Digital Age

http://adultcardiac.stanford.edu/images/heart.jpgLove is evolving in different forms. From love letters to Text / SMS messages, from snail mail to e-mails. People are constantly changing because change alone is constant.

Speed dating now evolved to Online Dating websites.

People won’t and can’t be contented. That is our nature. Greed is everywhere. If not greed, there is always the need to improve for the better but, sometimes, for the better is not for the better. Sometimes, people don’t realize that they are sometimes doing it for the bad.

Speed dating before takes lot of resources. Time, effort, and the big first impression. In online dating / social dating websites, you can relax and take off slowly until you find who you really want. I suggest, if you are just starting, try out philslove.com.

First, its free. Second, Free gold membership if you upload your photo. What are you waiting for? You have nothing to lose. Try the digital style of love!

Nokia n82 from a mobile phone-savvy person

A post from the net. > Nokia n82

My View (Below)

What is it: One of the latest N-Series mobile phones from Nokia.

Who’s it for: People looking for an excellent digital camera picture quality on an N-Series.

Wallet magnet: Connectivity includes tri-band GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS; 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash (ala N95) with excellent picture quality; convenient Nokia Maps (especially when you’re out of the country); headphone port compatible with regular headphones with 3.5mm plug; side-loading SD-card (no need to open battery cover); 2GB MiniSD-card included.

On second thought: Small keypad buttons (copying what was wrong with the Sony Ericsson W880i?); fat and unappealing candy-bar form factor.

What’s in the box: Nokia N82 N-Series; 2GB MiniSd-card; wired stereo headset; USB cable; rechargeable battery and power adapter; CD software and manual.

Tech Times’ verdict: A full-function mobile phone equipped with the best features Nokia can provide right now, but it looks too ordinary.

Having used several dozens of mobile phones for the past few years, I think that this phone would be a nice addition to the collection.

Just by looking at it (since I wasn’t one of the lucky ones to get and test the new Nokia n82), the keypad looks like a bit hard to press. It is similar to the keypad of the nokia 8850/8890 phones back in 2001 or 2002.

Reading the features of the n82, the HSDPA is great since I am using globe visibility mobile internet. GPS here in the Philippines will be quite useless unless you pay a premium price to use that service. 5mp camera? why don’t I sound contented? because, it says there “ala n95″ and I really don’t like n95’s camera. It is grainy. You might tell me that I go buy a digital camera. No! I’ve used several mobile phones that have satisfactory 3.2mp resolutions that are not grainy. last but not the least, the 3.5mm plug is great too.

Overall, if you ask me, the design of the phone is not something I want to go after too. The features are not that amazing too. If you ask me if i’d change to that phone, I won’t. I don’t know if testing that will change my mind but from the looks of it, nope. nevermind.

Fire prevention month - March to April?

There had been a lot of fires in the month of April than in the fire prevention month, which is March and most of them were big fires! Just yesterday, 4 fires hit the metro and of them reached task force Alpha. So, is this trend because of the summer heat or just the carelessness of people?

I’ve just read this news regarding the cause of a house fire. One of which, was from a xbox 360!

http://regmedia.co.uk/2005/05/13/xbox360.jpg

According to the news, Little Rock Fire Department Captain Jason Weaver fingered an Xbox 360 power supply as the source of a house fire Monday.

So, whatever gadget you have, just be careful and don’t take anything forgranted.

Mobile Phones can now be used in Airplanes - Globe Telecom International Roaming

A few years back, I was on a trip going to Australia. Normally, I turn my phone on when the plane halts. That time, I didn’t do so because when I checked my phone, it was on! Yes, it was on the entire flight.

Since that time, I wondered, so, if mobile phones aren’t affecting planes, I wonder why they want it turned off?

A few hours ago, I received this SMS message from globe.

From Globe:

Introducing Airline Roaming, another 1st from Globe’s worldwidest services! You may now use your mobile phone to call and text while on board selected aircrafts from 2 major int’l airlines. More airlines will be available soon! For free details, text AIRLINE to 2222.

Out of curiosity, I replied to that message. This was the reply.

Globe’s Airline Roaming is now available in Air France and Emirates’ select flights. Globe postpaid subscribers can now use their voice and text servies while on board a plane. The flight attendant will announce if the aircraft offers airline roaming. More airlines will be available soon!

Interesting? Yes! It means that, you can now surf the net while travelling in a plane. Talk about technology improvements.

This sure is one new technology to hit the Philippines. I hope Philippine Airlines / Cebu Pacific will offer such in the near future.

New Use of People Technology

The Internet. Most of us use this technology as a medium to do almost anything - buy, sell gather info, entertain ouselves, name it! It is very powerful that even big companies are compelled to act double time on complaints compared to written complaints.

I have here a clear cut example. A blog made by a particular user in multply, elaine10.multiply.com.

She complained about a particular fitness first trainer named Sam Santos of sexual harrasment, not in black and white (paper) but, using the power of the internet. To know the details about that complaint, just read elaine10’s blog. She posted that particular complaint in her blog April 6 and she got a response from Fitness First Eastwood in just one week without directly complaining there.

One week. Imagine, it is in the entire world wide web already that can be accessed throughout the globe using any device that has access to internet. Mobile phones, laptops, desktops, pda’s etc..! Yes. This is the new age. No wonder Yehey.com is doing so well right now.

They started small but now, they are an all-in-one multimedia-advertising-internet guru company which started from the Philippines. From placing internet ads in Yahoo, Google or wherever you like it. From website hosting, website design, flash banner ads creation. Whatever it is, as long as it is in the net, they have it! The world can see their distinct work. I was really amazed by some of their projects like the Chowking website, Experience Philippines website, Pantene / Olay / Nescafe SoundSkool and their two recent big time projects, the Trinoma Food Tour wherein they got bloggers to eat for free in partnership with Trinoma and the HappySlip Meet and Greet tour.

You know why the trinoma food tour was a big hit? Here are some C.S. reasons:

  • Bloggers/ Internet users get to eat for free - Who wouldn’t want to taste almost ALL the restaurants in Trinoma?
  • They even gave takehome goody bag - Trinoma Cinema Passes, Yehey 2008 Planner, Ayala Planner etc…
  • They get to expand their network - Bloggers/Media/HUMAN in particular like to interact with other humans.
  • Yes, aside from the 30-40 restaurants that you can taste for FREE, they even raffled of GC’s from restaurants and Yehey Bretas GC at the end of the day to those who joined. Talk about freebies galore! There is still such a thing as free in the world, you know.
  • Here is the part that companies would like to hear. Anything you write on the internet, good or bad, would be forever on the net except, when the author deletes the blog post or when the host deletes the post.

See? Do you know what the time frame of forever is? Can you imagine big companies spending millions on TV ads compared to giving a free meal for one day - in exchange for these ads?

Big companies, need to realize that TV ads, Newspaper ads, billboards or corporate websites alone are not sufficient to embrace this propelling and accelerating technology. They need to embrace it. Smell and Taste it… and swallow.

Some tips on how to embrace this booming medium almost everyone has access to.

1. Place ads in Yahoo, Google or wherever websites you want (Including Yehey, if you want.) If you are in the Philippines, call (02) 9106411 to inquire on these.
2. Make your websites attractive yet, professional.
3. If you cannot affod the most expensive ones (ad placements), go to google and search for “number one philippines serch engine” if your target is the Philippines. The top search engine listed there is usually the best place to put your bets into that it will click.
4. Who wants old promotions!? Try new ones!
Sample:

  • Online Press Conference
  • Chat Events
  • Meet and Greet Events
  • Food Tours
  • Product testing events

Basically, those are human interaction events wherein, the company will connect you with the right bloggers to “Blog” about your product. Be warned that, even though you are offering free food, giving away freebies etc… you will also get the chance to have a negative feedback because you can’t really “buy” bloggers to write ads for you. They write from their experiences.

For these kind of events, just call (02) 9106418 - Philippines.

My Sony Ericsson p910i - gmasked edition

Once Again, Thank you Gmask - Virramall Branch (Even if you guys didn’t accpet my gmask card for a free gmask sock)

I emailed gmask website admin about my blog and requested it to be posted in the gmask website. They explained why it can’t be posted because it contains complaints. I appreciated their quick response but after that one reply, they did not reply anymore. You know what I had in mind? to have my laptop gmasked. But now, I changed my mind. After hearing my complaint, they seem to not care anymore. They did not reply on why they are not accepting the “free gmask socks” card.

This is just a small rant. But I am not going to have my laptop gmasked just because you did not reply. Thanks for saving 5,000 pesos for me.

(I know 5,000 off your sales won’t scare you. I don’t care, I’ve said what I have to say and that is enough for me.)
- Vince

For my Blog visitors, check this out. Cool. Where can I buy this? :)
MyBook Essential Edition

*UPDATE!

I just received this e-mail from Eric Chao.

The reply was,

As for the FREE GMASK SOCK, this should be honored in any outlet of GMASK.  This is supposed to be used for your NEXT or FUTURE GMASK wrap.  We do this to reward customers for coming back and having their new gadget or other gadget gmasked as well.

Or some customers give it to friends to use also.

If any outlet does not honor this card, pls call our customer service number 0922-827-5055 so that our customer service agent will talk to the staff in the outlet.

Thank you for replying Sir Eric!
